Jon Dwyer

My interest in the process of making art is difficult to articulate or place, but somehow I feel I’m doing what I need to do; it’s no more complicated than that. Maybe I’m doing art because my need for it is so great that whatever was necessary to arrive at doing it was something I was willing to experience or to chance.

SELECTED ARTWORKS

My favorite paintings are those that invite the viewer to lean in close, rewarding their curiosity with hidden details and the evidence of the artist’s process. I’m drawn to works where the artist generously reveals their many iterations, offering glimpses of their journey from blank canvas to completed masterpiece. I find joy in following the paths of brushstrokes, tracing their energy and intention, while savoring the surprises of unpainted areas—the spaces left untouched as a silent, deliberate choice.
