About

Dwyer’s paintings function as a visual journal, tracing intimate memories and moments of uncertainty. Over time, each picture builds upon the last, contributing to an evolving body of work shaped by aging and the tension between life’s possibilities and limitations.

Painting, for Dwyer, is a test of truth—a determination to find the image: the thing encountered, the thing seen repeatedly, whose meaning gradually becomes the color and meaning of our lives. Within this ongoing sense of discovery, he seeks discrete moments of clarity, sincerity, epiphany, and vision.

His use of color, line, and shape is rarely prescriptive and is instead fundamentally exploratory. While he is quick to paint, Dwyer is slow to contemplate, often sitting in front of a work for hours out of fear of overworking the surface. He wants each image to be perfectly poised, able to hold a moment and make it permanent.

Though rooted in personal reflection, the paintings ultimately lean toward hope and beauty as a measured response to experience over time.
